Half-marathon #4 of 2013 was the St Pete Rock 'n' Roll 1/2 Marathon, I actually ran the inaugural race last
year and until the Best Damn Race last week R'n'R is where I had my half-marathon PR.
Jen and I headed to the expo at Tropicana field on Saturday to pick up our race packets and see if we could find and deals. We didn't find anything we wanted but Fit2Run was handing out flyers for a pair of free Feetures socks if you stopped by their St. Pete location, Jen and I both jumped on that deal.
We wandered around for a little and picked up our bibs, race shirts, and checked out Brooks awesome double decker bus, where you could try on shoes and get your gait analyzed.

We said a quick but shy hello to the Geico gecko and then got our butts out of there to find some lunch and hunt down our free socks.
Across the street from where we parked there was a raw/vegan cafe so we decided to stop in for a quick, healthy, but not necessarily cheap lunch.
I decided on a spinach salad with avocado and soaked almonds. Once we were done with lunch we headed to Fit2Run, they were having a huge sidewalk sale but there wasn't anything either of us really needed so we grabbed our socks and headed home.
Race morning came too early and I just wanted to stay in bed, looking at the picture above it looks like I was sleeping. I got up at 4:30 am and headed to Jen's house so we could carpool. Because the race doesn't start and finish at the same place we figured it would be best if we rode together to the start and then had James and the girls meet up at the finish line so we could hitch a ride back to her car.
We got to Tropicana field with an hour to spare and I got to meet up with my friend and running coach Mary. I was really excited I got to see her with so many people running the race. We also found the Striders and found out that over 70 of us were running one of the two races.
Just as the race was starting I saw that Jen didn't have any music with her, she said she had been running without it and I mentioned that I should start doing some runs music free but that I'm really dependent on it. I told her that at least she would have the bands playing along the course to keep her entertained, well yeah she wasn't the only one who would be running without music. Within a minute of that conversation I turned on my I-pod only to discover that is was totally dead = me not happy at all. I listen to music during every workout to keep myself for getting bored and now I was screwed.
In the end I survived without music, I didn't get a PR but I had fun and was able to cross half marathon #4 of 2013 off my list. Once I was done I grabbed my medal and headed over to the concert area to find James, Jen, and the girls. Jen ended up crushing her old PR by 12 minutes but because the concert was so loud and the girls were cranky we didn't stay around for long.
Looking at my splits it is clear I need to get mentally tougher and go out slower, I get tired and just give up towards the end which make the last few miles of the race miserable. That's all I have for now, lets hope Gasparilla in 2 weeks goes smoother.
