Disney camping trip...

At the beginning of 2012 I signed up to run the Chicago Marathon and a few months later decided that since I would already be trained for one marathon why not go ahead and do the Disney Marathon also. This year is the 20th anniversary of the Disney Marathon and a lot of Striders were doing it so I pulled the trigger with the plan that Jen and I would train and run it together.

Well things don't always work out as planned, I got injured in December and missed a few long runs and mentally checked out of doing the marathon. My foot got better in a few weeks and I was back to running but I no longer had the drive to finish a second marathon so soon after Chicago. I offered my bib up to a friend so that it wouldn't go to waste, I figured the money was already gone and it was time to move past Disney and focus on my next goal. I had a feeling it was the right thing to do and that in the end karma is good and things have a way of working out.

Well I was right... 12 hours after officially telling Rebecca she could have my bib another friend told me that she wasn't going to run the Disney half and that I could do it for her. So tomorrow morning I will be running 13.1 miles through Disney to get a sweet Donald Duck medal.

Because of my somewhat last minute decision to run the half James and I made the decided to make the weekend into a family camping trip, so we packed up the van with all of our rarely used camping equipment and hit the road for Orlando.

We headed straight to the race expo at Epcot to meet Elizabeth and Chris and pick up the bib for Saturday morning. The expo was crazy and there was a huge line to get in but luckily it moved fairly quickly.

Once we got in we walked around for a little while and then quickly meet up with Elizabeth to pick up the bib and kick off part 1 of our goofy weekend. Once we had the bib in hand we got out of the expo because the girls were over the crowds.

We headed over to the KOA camping site to set up our tent for the weekend. The place was really nice and clean, not exactly the same as camping in the woods but for the money it was a good deal.

With the girls working as our helpers we had the tent set up in no time.

With our home for the weekend setup we made our way to Target for some food and snacks and while  we were shopping we ended up buying a new tent. I guess we will be camping a lot more now that we won't have to sleep in the old smelly tent anymore after this weekend.

Time to hit the air mattress and get ready to see Mickey in the morning.
